    Thanks for your plugins.

But wouldn’t it be possible to give presets with all your plugins .

    I’d be easier for beginners!

    Hi Sir Elliot
I have just tested the Universal Comp with 9 other comps plug in…: I give it the first place ex aequo! Very beautiful work! Amazing vintage sounds with ground and air and shaping…

hi , i LOVE this compressor a lot like your others plugs !!!

they are real gems for me !

but i ve lot of troubles using this niice comp with ableton live 8 …

when i touch and move the behaviour’s setting directly on top of the gui there is a big bug that crash the plug and make some gui’s elements to disappear.
plus , the sound is like bypassed.

i must re-open the set/project to find the comp working like before the bug .

so i have a HUGE hope that you could fix that soon …

i would like to be able to use a lot this amazing comp !

    big thanks .

    best regards ,

    Hi Thomas.

    I hope all is well.

I will investigate the problem you are having on Ableton Live version 8 and, contact you on 12/10/2010 with my findings.

    Cheers!

    hi sir ,

    hope you are well .

thanks a lot for your time , sympathy/kindness for your investigation !

but i ask myself where is the trouble ??! very strange ….

maybe the realtionship between your plugs and varietyofsound’s plugs or ddmf plugs on my master bus ?! i dont know ..

i will test it without bootsy’s plugs and ddmf’plugs to see what happened and after maybe add bootsy’s plugs and ddmf plugs to discover the culprit . héhé

this is my first bug with your plugs (on my master bus )and i use snob eq or paragraphic eq some times …but i have never had a little bug .

so i have to investigate more on the other plug ins ‘s side …

all the best for all ,

and thanks again for your amazing plugs !!!

    salut !

…so i ve made some little tests and it seems that universal comp dont like some of varietyofsound’s plugs and ddmf plugs too…

when i ve nothing but the universal comp everything work great but , by exple , when i put varietyofsound’s ferric tds or ny compressor by ddmf on the master bus , and i tweak quickly the differents behaviour ‘s models after few seconds the first sign is that a vu-meter disappears , so i continue tweaking and after i ve a bug that produces some big white noise: it distort my track and the master bus or/and it cut the signal as it was bypassed .

so maybe its a gui’s issue ??!! i dont know but its sure that your comp dont like to share the master bus with others things héhé .

    hope it helps …

    cheers !

    Hi.

That sounds like a problem with sample rates. Bear in mind that the Universal Compressor was optimised for 96000 – 192000 kHz sample rates. If the meters are disappearing and you are hearing noise upon adjusting the behaviour contour, it means, there is a conflict with Bootsy’s plug-ins and DDMF from a sample rate perspective.

It is out of my hands since this is not a host issue but a conflict with another plug-in that I cannot investigate internally. The most I can tell you, is to insert the Universal Compressor first followed by the Bootsy’s and/or DDMF’s compressor. If that is what you are doing, try putting the Universal Compressor last, and Bootsy’s plugin first.

The Universal Compressor works well with URS, Waves, Voxengo, & PSP plug-ins so, I am certain there are no conflicts with those plug-ins.

    Cheers!

    Hello Thomas!

I’ve taken the liberty to download Bootsy’s Feric vst plug-in and try it on my 2.8 GHZ Pentium 4 CPU using Ableton Live 8.2 Demonstration with the Universal Compressor sitting on Windows 7.

I have no idea why you are getting conflicts. Possibly, Bootsy offered an updated version of his design in which you are using an older version?

The video below demonstrates Bootsy’s Feric and, Sir Elliot’s Universal Compressor working together with no conflicts whatsoever from the beginning of the track to the end.

The audio track is 44.1 kHz/16-bit

    hello sir ,

no i use his last versions so i dont understand …
im working all the time at 24 /48 khz …

but in my projects there is some files at 24/48 , others at 24/44 and even at 16/44 so maybe this mix of all these differents files can create issues ?

plus i ve had a crash just with just your comp on the master bus ??!! so i dont understand …

and always the same thing : a vu-meter disappear and after a huge distortion noise saturate my master bus like a huge digital explosion of white noise héhé . fortunately i was working at low level volume héhé …

i will make a test with just and only 24/48 khz files accorded to my system sample rate to see what happened …

edit : ive make a test with just some wav files at 24/44 and my system at 24/44 and just your comp on the master i ve just rise the input level a bit and tweak very quickly the behaviour’s settings and pof always the same BUG !!!

so i really dont understand …

but ive seen that my windows system has sp2 but not sp3 …maybe it could make this thing happen ?

thanks for your answers ,time and your investigation mister elliot !

    cheers !

    Hello Thomas.

Unfortunately, I cannot fix a problem in which I am not encountering. As you can see from the videos, the Universal Compressor works in Ableton Live 8.2 demonstration. It even performs using Bootsey’s plug-in you mentioned was incompatible on Ableton Live 8.2.

Playing multiple files using different sample rates at the same time may be the problem. None of my plug-ins was designed to work in such a manor.

The most I can tell you is don’t use it anymore. It may not be the answer you were looking for however, I cannot troubleshoot something that is not malfunctioning on my end. Your dilemma would require me to literally see what is occurring on your computer and examine the status of Windows when it occurs on your computer.

Using Ableton Live 8.2 demonstration, Bootsy’s Feric plug-in with the Universal Compressor on Windows 7 and XP non-service pack on my computer, I am not encountering any problems.

    Cheers!

    hi elliot ,

i understand …but maybe if you have a myspace or facebook ..could you send me an e-mail ‘s adress in order to send you a little video that i ve made to see the bug …

i think you have my e-mail so if you are interested to see this bug tell me ..

i can using it if i cant switch often ,several times the behaviour ‘s model so unfortunately maybe it will be my only way to use it …

and again i LOVE this WONDERFUL compressor and all your plugs ins so its why im a bit sad ..

all the best, and thank you very much again for all !!!

    cheers !

    Hello Thomas!

Feel free to contact me using the PM system on Gearslutz, the 21st of October, with a download link of the video. I would suggest you offer a step by step of the video. Also, open up task manager so I can see the computer’s CPU status during the transition.

This will enable me to perform the exact test on my machine using Ableton Live 8.2 demonstration’s model.

Bear in mind if I cannot attain the same problem as you upon performing the exact test, the problem is related to your computer, operating system or your version of Ableton Live which is out of my hands.

The videos demonstrate that the Universal Compressor performs properly in Ableton Live 8.2 demonstration model and, I have no one mentioning the Universal Compressor is failing in Ableton Live.

As I mentioned previously the Universal Compressor is a Mastering Compressor, which means it is designed to function using one track. Not multiple tracks offering different sample rates. Do keep that in mind when making the video.

    Cheers!
